  • Interview Questions

Thanks for sending me a copy of your interview questions. Here are my comments:

    1. Eliminate questions about the Davis Scholarship. Let your interviewee bring it up (a little coaching, perhaps). Then you can ask a follow-up about the scholarship.
    2. Keep it simple. Let your interviewee answer open-ended questions. Limit your scripted questions to 5 or 6. You can ad lib a bit when there is an obvious opportunity.

Here are the questions I would keep from your list, but you may want to further revise:

    1. Where are you from?
    2. What drives you to pursue your education and be successful?
    3. What made you decide to attend WCC?
    4. What has your experience at WCC been like?
    5. What challenges in life have you overcome to get where you are today?
    6. What are your plans after WCC? (my addition, trying to get some life goals)

Remember that you don't want enough footage of each interview, but too much footage will be impossible to edit in the time you have.

Other groups, please feel free to post additional comments on this post.

  • KWD Promotional Video (Progress Report)

We shook things up and are ready to start filming in order to be ready for the presentation in May. It is not always easy to find a common hour to meet, but we are making progress no matter what. Tomorrow during the meeting we will make sure that everyone signs the legal release form necessary for us to publish our documentary. We came up with various questions regarding each group, and will be presenting them to professor Maida and Trickel in order to help us selecting the right ones. We will be filming the scholars and their group regarding the schedule we established together to conduct the interview and will film at their convenience. Regarding the production material necessary to our project, we are presently in conversation with faculty members on campus to acquire better equipment. We will start filming Monday March, 1st after we revise everyones' schedule and make sure we are all on the same page.

  • Mission Statement

Our aim is to educate current and prospective students with a film regarding the possibilities that WCC offers. We will achieve this through the representation of the adversity overcome by each member in the Kathryn W. Davis Global Community Scholars Program. We will  highlight the aspects that stand to benefit those who hope to participate in this wonderful program. Aspects such as affordable schooling, international understanding, serving the community in innovative ways, and all of the different other aspects involved with participating in this program. Our hope in the end is, that those who held reservations about a "community college" will see WCC for what it truly is, an established accredited learning institution that utilizes the best in all mediums of education.
  • Kathyrn W. Davis Promotional Video

My Group and I have made the decision to make a video portraying the scholarship that has done so much for all of us. Myself, Joana, Nadine, and Le-Sheka will be writing, filming and editing a video displaying the program we have been able to participate in (Kathryn W. Davis Global Community Leaders). The video will show the different adversities and triumphs that have allowed us to make it this far in life. The video will consist of an introduction from a student in our program and then a brief overview of the previous members. The video will then display the current members in order of their community service groups. The students in each group will be interviewed and asked a series of questions we believe will display their character as best as we can. The groups will then describe their project and what exactly they wish to achieve with their community service projects. After we have cycled through the groups, we will then have our Professors Maida and Trickel say something about the Kathryn W. Davis Global Community Leaders. The conclusion will be a montage of  video from our community service projects, with one of our scholars speaking over it. After production we will present it to public schools around the county in hopes to recruit as many students as possible to WCC. This film will show the community all of the tremendous advantages here at our school, and do away with the myth that WCC is the "thirteenth grade". We hope in the end people will see just what all of us know to be true, That Westchester Community College is truly "Harvard on the Hudson". The school has the prowess and capabilities of shaping minds to be the ivy league graduates of tomorrow.

The logistics of this video will entail:

What we need from you (KWD Scholars):

One hour in the following two months to be interviewed

a schedule of when and where you will be working on your service project

    and plenty of  patience :)

Thank you all for your help and Happy Holidays.

    Sincerely, Group 2

  • Current Status

As of right now, we have scheduled the event for March 10th, 2009. The presentation will be held by the director of the C.R.Y.S.T.L.E Closet at the WCC Campus in Valhalla. Flyers were sent out via email and also handed out throughout the campus. The brochure is finished, however not sure if shes actually going to use it. After the presentation, I will post what happened and how everything went.

The presentation is held on Tuesday, March 10th, 2009 in CLA 100 at 11 a.m. the presentation is about an hour long. Dell will be coming in with wigs and other things to show to the audience. The flyers are being mailed out today. I have also gotten the 3 fold brochure to bring in so that people could take it home with them the day of the presentation. The flyer looks similar to this. It is difficult to show it through the blog, but i will bring it in on Thursday.

  • Process of the brochure

As of tonight, I am almost finished with the 3 fold brochure. it includes a little bit of history on the abuse of women.. then it goes into talking about the Crystle Closet itself. i am waiting for Leah to give me some of the pictures that were taken of the place so i can put it on the front of the brochure and then maybe trying to make a logo so i can put it on the back... its coming out very well...

  • The Crystle Closet

Hey, Leah and myself are currently working with the Crystle Closet. It is an organization where women who were abused get to go and have some sort of comfort in knowing that they are not alone and are now safe from their abusive spouse. The organization has people who help the women get new clothing, since they probably do not have any at the time. They provide services for them such as one on one counseling or group counseling. While the women/mothers are in counseling, the organization provides a room for the children to play and hang out in. There is a storage room down the street from the Crystle Closet, where all of the clothes and makeup is kept. it is now in the process of being put together so the clothes are not all over the place. they are going to be putting up shelves, so we hopefully get to go and organize all of the things so they are not scattered around. I was recently able to meet with the mayor of Peekskill, along with alot of other respected people around the area. We had a fundraiser at the Tea Room which is a building in Peekskill strictly devoted to just having tea in an older more victorian fashion. Many people came and gave donations to the Crystle Closet, while we ate, and spoke about the organization itself. Last night, February 9th, was the actual grand opening of the Crystle Closet. I did not get to attend due to my work schedule, however Leah did. I am in the process of creating a three fold brochure about domestic violence and the Crystle Closet itself. I believe that it would be a good idea to have people keep a reminder of what it is during the presentation. We will also be handing them out on campus and throughout our community. Leah and I have great ideas about the powerpoint and will soon begin to put everything together.
